LEGACY FILMS

Since its formation in 2008, Humanus Documentary Films Foundation has produced two feature documentaries on World War One aviation.  The Millionaires’ Unit—The First U.S. Naval Aviators in World War One and The Lafayette Escadrille—The American Volunteers Who Flew for France in World War One have received multiple awards and played on PBS stations across the country.  They are available for purchase and rental by streaming, download, and on DVD and Blu-ray. 

The Millionaires’ Unit tells the unsung story of a group of Yale college students who took the initiative to learn to fly in preparation for America’s entry into the Great War. One hundred years ago they became the first to fly for the United States in WW1, some of them making the ultimate sacrifice. DVDs on Amazon. Streaming on Amazon Prime and iTunes.


The Lafayette Escadrille tells the renowned story of the American volunteers who rushed to join the French Foreign Legion at the outbreak of WWI, then formed an all-American squadron flying for France before the United States joined the war. They fought in every theater along the Western Front from the outbreak to the Armistice. It is the origin story of U.S. combat aviation. PBS Passport.
